İkiz Konak Boutique Hotel
A boutique hotel created by Çorum Municipality from the restoration of the historic İkiz Konak (“Twin Mansion”) in the city’s Kale Mahallesi neighborhood opened on Friday, 18 September 2026, with an official ceremony. Municipal officials describe it as Çorum’s first boutique hotel.
Location and Building
İkiz Konak stands along the Kültür Yolu (Culture Road) project route running from Çorum Kalesi (the castle) to the Ulu Cami (Grand Mosque), next to the Veli Paşa Konağı mansion. As its name suggests, the building consists of two adjoining mansions, described as an original example of traditional Çorum civil architecture — notably featuring the upper-floor “outer hall” (dış sofa) layout characteristic of the region. Before restoration the building was in ruins; Çorum Municipality expropriated the property, drew up a restoration project, and rebuilt it, preserving surviving original sections while restoring the deteriorated parts in keeping with the original fabric.
Restoration and Cost
According to figures given by Mayor Dr. Halil İbrahim Aşgın at the opening ceremony, the project — from site handover to opening — took about 23 months and cost a total of 80 million lira. Of this, 20 million lira came from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, 13 million lira from the Çorum Governor’s Office, and the remainder from Çorum Municipality.
The Hotel and Its Social Facility
The restored building has been converted into a boutique hotel with a capacity of 22 beds. In the mansion’s garden, the municipality has also created a social facility called Velipaşa Kahvesi, serving coffee and desserts, open not only to hotel guests but to all residents and visitors.
At the opening ceremony it was announced that the hotel’s first guests would be families of fallen soldiers (şehit) and war veterans visiting from Ankara. The ceremony was attended by Çorum Governor Ali Çalgan, Mayor Dr. Halil İbrahim Aşgın, Hitit University Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Osman Öztürk, the head of the Ankara Regional Board for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture and Tourism) Mehmet Akif Işık, and numerous local officials and residents.
A Note on Identity and History
This research could not locate a reliable, detailed source for the building’s exact construction year or first owner; one academic study (Akyol et al., 2025) counts it only among Çorum city center’s traditional civil-architecture examples dating to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, without giving a specific date. Wikipedia’s article on Veli Paşa Konağı lists a building called “İkizler Konağı” (Twin Mansion) among the structures near that mansion; given İkiz Konak’s location immediately next to Veli Paşa Konağı, this is likely the same building, though no source directly confirms the identification. No public record was found either confirming or describing a formal heritage-registration (tescil) status for the building.

The conversion of İkiz Konak into a boutique hotel is a concrete example of efforts to bring Çorum’s historic civil-architecture heritage in the city center into tourism use.
