Turhan Kılıçcıoğlu

Dr. Turhan Kılıçcıoğlu (1931, Çorum – 7 March 1994, Çorum) served as mayor of Çorum for a total of 16 years across two terms and was the founding president of the football club Çorumspor. The official list of the Çorum Directorate of Culture and Tourism mistakenly names him “Turan Kılıçcıoğlu”; municipal, press and sports sources consistently use the name “Turhan.”

Mayoralty

Kılıçcıoğlu served as mayor of Çorum from 10 December 1973 to 27 February 1984, and again from 27 September 1989 to 7 March 1994. During his tenure he was known for a disciplined, hands-on administrative style, closely overseeing municipal services, particularly sanitation.

Founding Çorumspor

In 1967 he became the founding president of Çorumspor, playing a pioneering role in shaping the city’s sporting identity. The city’s old stadium was named the Dr. Turhan Kılıçcıoğlu Stadium in his honour and served as Çorumspor’s home for nearly half a century (see Çorum Stadium).

Death

Kılıçcıoğlu died at home on 7 March 1994, about 20 days before local elections, while still serving as mayor. He continues to be commemorated on the anniversary of his death by Çorum FK supporters and the local press.
